SCHOLARSHIPS

The Winchendon American Legion gives out several scholarships each year. Besides the American Legion other scholarships available are from the Sons Squadron #193 of Winchendon Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary Unit #193. Please see the qualifications and the applications below.

Any student that lives in Winchendon graduating from High School and Post Graduates may apply. 

 

  Eugene M. Connor Post 193 Scholarships

 

 The Post 193 Scholarships

  • The Post will give out one to five scholarships annually as long as funding in the Scholarship account is available and there are eligible applicants
  • Applications are open to students who are going to graduate within the next month from High School or students who are currently in college and will be attending the next semester, and currently living in Winchendon
  • The value of the scholarships will be determined annually and may vary from year to year based on the interest earned on the scholarship account
  • If two applicants end in a tie, the scholarship money will be split evenly
  The Application Process
  • Each eligible applicant will be required to complete a Winchendon Legion scholarship application along with a high school or college grade transcript 
  • Each eligible applicant will be required to submit the above via U.S. mail to: Eugene M. Connor Post 193 - 295 School St. - Winchendon, MA 01475
  • Attn: Commander - Scholarship Documents enclosed 
  • Applications must be received on or before May 15th of each year

Eligibility for Post 193 Scholarships

  • Any High School student or College Grad currently residing in Winchendon are eligible
  • There are no requirements for any family member to be a Legionnaire to apply
  • Applicant does not have to be attending High School in Winchendon to be eligible
  • Applicant must be accepted at a secondary school of education or already enrolled in college and will be attending for the next semester
  •  A recipient of a scholarship may apply again another year if they are continuing their education 
Post Scholarship Approval Process 
  • A Scholarship Committee consisting of the Commander, and two appointed members will review all applications
  • At the May Executive Committee meeting the Scholarship Committee will present their recommendations to the members present and the number and value of the scholarships to be awarded will be determined by the E-board

  Payment of Scholarships by the Post

  • Payment of Scholarships to the recipient will be done once the Winchendon Legion receives notification that the recipient successfully completed their first semester or the current semester they are in
  • All checks that are awarded directly to the recipient that are not cashed within 45 days will be automatically canceled and not reinstated
